Online daters marry after 18 months

People who meet through online dating are more likely to marry after a short courtship.

This highlights the potential benefits that can come from using this medium, as couples who tie the knot after meeting over the internet date for an average of 18.5 months, compared to the typical period of 42 months for those who hook up in person.

In 2010, 17 per cent of couples who were involved in a wedding initially found each other on the web, which highlights the increased importance of this medium when it comes to finding love.

This is expected to hike in the future as well, with more people using mobile apps to source dates with potential partners on the go.

Online dating is set to be very popular in 2012 – according to the Scotsman – as men and women alike look to find that someone special in the new year.
