Sydney Olympics gold medallist Jason Queally is set to show how much he supports soldiers by participating in a fundraising event.

The Chorley-born sportsman showed off his skills in the 2000 Games and will now use them in a bid to earn money for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help charity.

He is set to join the Ride of Britain, which will see 40 people travel around the UK on two wheels, starting at Edinburgh Castle.

Soldiers Paul Jacobs and Michael Swain are also joining the event alongside Mr Queally, despite being injured in Afghanistan.

The Olympic star comments: "It is a brilliant opportunity for me to give something back to the forces and thank them for all the hard work they do for us."

Almost 500 miles of countryside will be covered by the route, which begins on September 21st and involves five days of cycling.
