Some 1,050 additional tickets have been made available to armed forces members for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The passes will be handed out through the Tickets for Troops scheme and come on top of the 10,000 servicemen and women who have already received free entry to various events.

Anyone who was unlucky in the original ballot has a chance of getting one of the new tickets and among the events covered are athletics, basketball, boxing, cycling, diving and football.

The defence secretary Philip Hammond stated: "With the armed forces playing a considerable role in the Olympic security effort, it is extremely welcome that the organisers have released such a large number of free tickets."

Lord Coe, chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said he is delighted military personnel and their families will benefit from the initiative.

The Olympic Games will get underway on Friday (July 27th).
