Older people looking for love may benefit from joining an online dating service.

John Rushton, author and founder of thelifealchemist.org, stated it is a great option for those seeking some companionship in their lives.

With researchers from the University of Rochester in the US revealing earlier this year that the medium is now the second most popular way to meet a mate, individuals should give some serious consideration to trying it out.

Mr Rushton stated that if used correctly, single individuals will be able to meet a number of friends that share common interests, likes and values.

However, he added internet dating can be "fraught with obstacles [and] hurdles", so no one should rush into it.

Instead, it may best for older individuals to take their time sifting through profiles until they come across one that intrigues them.

"Interests are very important, having lots of common interests and also being easy about the interests that your partner or companion has that don't interest you," Mr Rushton stated.
