An elderly woman in Scarborough has had to be rescued from a deckchair.

The unfortunate individual – who is believed to be 83 years old – found herself trapped in the chair after the fabric snapped and she was unable to disturb any of her neighbours in the proceeding six hours.

Eventually, firefighters who were carrying out routine checks on fire alarms spotted the lady in distress and were able to free her.

They then called for paramedics to come and check out the lady.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "This was an unusual incident, but our firefighters are trained for every eventuality."

This just goes to show what bizarre incidents can occur when the weather is nice, so people should always be cautious.

I've never really though about deckchairs as a dangerous seating option before, but I may have to reconsider this after hearing about the woman's ordeal.
