Animal lovers have been given what appears to be a slightly unusual opportunity to purchase condoms for their pets – although it later turned out to be a hoax.

People who visit petcondoms.org will find an offer that claims they can buy contraception for their animals, accompanied by an image of a large white dog.

Several links are also shown that indicate they will give people the chance to find out how to put on an animal condom, as well as provide information on the shapes and sizes available.

However, once users click on the links they will find the whole site is a hoax and the possibility of encouraging their pet to practice safe sex is not yet a reality.

The San Francisco SPCA is behind the website and it is designed to highlight the importance of pet owners having their animals sprayed or neutered in order to avoid the problem of a high number of unwanted creatures.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801647727-ADNFCR
