Is there anything more annoying than someone coming to a stop on the pavement so they can write or read a text message?

It really infuriates me and eventually a person is going to get hurt by the practice.

This is why I'm delighted to see a town in New Jersey is taking steps to deal with this problem, as it has introduced a fine for reckless walking.

So far Fort Lee officials have penalised 117 people for the offence, which highlights how big a problem it is.

Police chief Thomas Ripoli stated: "Pedestrians aren't watching where they're walking, they're not aware."

Hopefully it means text-walking will become a thing of the past in the area and who knows, it could even catch on in other countries.

Just imagine how much easier it would be making your way down a street in London, Tokyo or New York if people couldn't text anymore.
