Cheryl Cole is alleged to have ended her marriage to Ashley Cole via text and 63 per cent of soldiers said they would have no problem dumping someone with a message.
According to research by rightmobilephone.co.uk, 22 per cent of people have already ended a relationship through a text, while 18 per cent said they have publicly humiliated their other half on a social network.
When asked the most likely reason for dumping someone by text or on Facebook, 45 per cent said cheating would do it, with 21 per cent claiming they would do so if they were too scared to do it face-to-face.
Neil McHugh, co-founder of the researcher, said: "It wasn’t a huge shock that so many said they would dump someone by text and for those who said they would do so if they were cheated on, it’s probably only what they think their partner deserves."
A recent study by MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk revealed that 34 per cent of girls would say adios to their partner if it meant they had access to Cheryl Cole’s wardrobe.
