It’s safe to say that the recent volcanic ash cloud caused its fair share of havoc among holidaymakers.

But it also affected one soldier, whose mum missed his wedding day after being stranded in Morocco.

Royal Engineer Daniel Barnes was unable to postpone his big day because of pre-tour training, meaning that his mum couldn’t attend the nuptials, the Daily Telegraph reported.

However, kind-hearted vicar Reverend Valerie Plumb heard about the fiasco and agreed to put on a replica service over the bank holiday weekend (May 2nd) so Daniel’s mum could see her soldier sun tie the knot with his childhood sweetheart.

She said: "It’s just been an absolutely brilliant day, it was really super and I don’t feel like I missed out now."

Despite many people thinking that the disruption caused by the volcanic cloud of ash has gone for good, it has actually returned, with hundreds of flights in Ireland and Scotland being grounded today (May 4th).
