The saddest goalposts in the county have been replaced by sports equipment company Harrod UK, reports the Essex County Standard. The new equipment completed the football field and allowed a charity football match to take place, raising money for SSAFA.

Located in Montgomery Park, Colchester – which is located close to the Colchester's army barracks – the goal posts had been left in a state of disrepair and didn't look great. However, Vanessa Lucas saw them get replaced after she, her husband Kevin and twin sons Sam and Lewis entered them in a competition.

Harrod UK's contest was to find the saddest goal posts in the country so they could be replaced and allow people to play football with new posts. It seems that Colchester's goalposts were neglected enough to win the contest and soon there were new ones installed.

To celebrate the new posts, the first match on the pitch was arranged, with an Army team facing off against the military housing provider Carillion Amey. The match got a lot of local people to attend, with the Army ultimately winning 20-11.

As part of the event, it was also arranged for the local school to have a non-uniform day, with students paying a small sum to wear their own clothes to classes for a day. This raised a total of £250, which is to be split between the military charity SSAFA and the Sick Children's Trust.

A bouncy castle was also provided at the match by Natalie Richardson who runs Green Petal Parties, helping to make the event even more special.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801825902-ADNFCR
