Armed forces charities are receiving record amounts despite the current economic recession.

Donations have increased by 26 per cent since 2008 as Britons continue to showcase their generosity, the Sun reports.

Help for Heroes has seen the biggest boom, with its income rising by 181 per cent in the four-year period, while Save Our Soldiers has experienced an 87 per cent hike.

This is at odds with the general pattern of charitable giving, as cash gifts have dropped by five per cent across the board.

Charities Aid Foundation director Richard Harrison stated: "Forces charities do amazing work for soldiers, veterans and their families. They have touched the hearts of the many people who want to do something."

He added the figures prove that Britons have no problem rallying around to support a worthy cause.

A series of military-themed events took place on Saturday (June 30th) to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
