A chip shop in Middlesbrough is doing all it can to raise money for Help for Heroes after a collection box was stolen.

Thieves raided Pelican Jacks last weekend (October 6th) and made off with a charity box containing money that had been donated to the good cause, reports the Gazette.

Co-owner John Reeves has decided to lead an operation to recoup the funds by donating money from the sale of food at his establishment to the charity.

From now, 50p will be donated for every portion of fish and chips that is snapped up by hungry locals.

"We'll also double that day's charity donations from the business takings by way of thanks to the local community for support in this venture," Mr Reeves explained.

As well as the theft of the charity box, the fish and chip shop also suffered serious damage, but the owner was keen to point out this pales into insignificance compared with the Help for Heroes money being lost.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801648720-ADNFCR
