Single soldiers who fear they are too old to try online dating may wish to think again, as it has been suggested the partner-finding method is becoming increasingly popular among those who are middle aged.

Time reports people aged 50 plus are the fastest growing market on many matchmaking websites, noting more mature individuals are naturally suited to finding love online as they often have a more open-minded view of potential partners.

Anthropologist and author Helen Fisher was quoted as saying: "Fifteen years ago if you went on an online dating site, you would be thought to have three heads," whereas now, it has become far more socially acceptable, the news source suggests.

Other factors influencing the boom in love-finding portals include the financial empowerment of women, which has allowed many females to walk out of bad marriages and look for a second partner.

Hot soldiers of any age may also be encouraged to give online dating a go following advice from psychiatrist Catherine Birndorf, who told the McClatchy-Tribune News Service unattached individuals should be willing to try new things and step out of their comfort zone.
