Residents of the Leicestershire market town of Melton Mowbray have been digging deep to support soldiers in Afghanistan by entering a charity raffle.

According to the Melton Times, the Melton Building Society has been holding the competition to support the forces charity Help for Heroes, with the prize draw set to take place on Monday (December 26th).

This year, the organisation has made £2,500 for the good cause and customer advisor and organiser of the raffle Anne Swan has said all are impressed by the enthusiasm and big-heartedness of customers and other locals.

She was quoted by the news source as saying: "Thanks to the generosity and support of Melton residents, who have really got behind us, we have been able to add our raffle total of £650 to our overall yearly total."

This week, the Stornoway Gazette reported that a charity gig in Stornoway made over £1,000 for Help for Heroes, with local talents taking to the stage to play rock music in honour of the cause.
