Help for Heroes (H4H) has been given a boost by the news that Olympic cyclist Mark Cavendish has agreed to become its latest patron.

The Manx sports star will take up the position immediately and is due to front a campaign for the upcoming Hero Ride, reports the Isle of Man Today.

He will then take part in the event, which is scheduled to take place on June 2nd and has been described by Cavendish as a "very special project".

"I have seen first hand the great work that H4H [does] and I'm a passionate supporter of the charity," Cavendish added.

The cyclist has been backing H4H since 2010, when he met his fiancee Peta Todd at a charity event in California.

He has also been known to hand over his stage winner's jersey from the Tour de France on one occasion to Private Scott Meenagh in recognition of his work in the military.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801550343-ADNFCR
