Royal Marines from 40 Commando have stripped naked for a calendar shoot in an effort to raise around £30,000 for charity.

Released just in time for Christmas, the money collected by the calendar will go to the Go Commando charity, which provides support to Navy officers and their families.

The unit was instrumental in setting it up in 2010 and so its members were the obvious choice when models were needed.

Despite their heavy workload, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Jackson was determined that his men would be involved, noting that the calendar would act as a "fitting tribute" to 40 Commando.

The calendar has been produced entirely by the unit, with the Marines directing as well as starring in the pictures, while Rhys O'Leary – a photographer with 40 Commando – took the shots.

Mr O'Leary even had to send the photos from their current base in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, to the Ministry of Defence for approval.
