A man from Manchester is trying to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes (H4H).

Instead of setting himself an easy New Year's resolution, Andrew Bell kicked off 2012 by promising to collect the massive total for the military charity, Mancunian Matters reports.

With nearly 11 months of his challenge completed, Mr Bell has so far managed to raise £7,500 and is set to make a final push in the run-up to Christmas.

The University of Chester student – who also volunteers with the Forestry Commission – has organised raffles, tombolas and various table top sales in an effort to hit his target.

"I believe that H4H does a truly amazing and fantastic job in making sure our injured servicemen and women get the best treatment and care that they deserve," Mr Bell stated.

He hopes that some Christmas-themed fundraisers will be able to carry him over the line.
