Man tries to smuggle birds in pants on a plane

Sometimes animal lovers go a bit overboard in how they treat their pets.

It is not unusual to see a cat or dog ridiculously dressed by their owner and paraded around.

But one Dutch man has adopted a completely different approach to make sure he did not lose his hummingbirds.

After taking a flight to Cayenne in French Guiana, he was detained as he was spotted acting suspiciously.

And when officials completed a search on him, they discovered he was looking to smuggle 12 hummingbirds into the country.

Worst of all, he had tried to hide them in his pants, which must have been a sweaty experience for the feathered friends.

They had been sedated and individually wrapped in cloth to try and minimise their movement while up in the air.

Apparently it is not the first time the male has tried something like this and it follows on from a man being caught in Miami with seven snakes and three tortoises in his trousers.
