A man is going to cycle from Cumbria to the Lake District in order to raise money for SSAFA Forces Help.

Simon Eaton will take on the 120-mile challenge on July 30th and hopes to have it completed in two days, the Leicester Mercury reports.

He was inspired to tackle the ride after his mum Lynda was elected Mayor of Oadby and Wigston in May and made SSAFA Forces Help her chosen charity for the year.

"I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with a ride that length, but I've given myself plenty of time," Mr Eaton observed.

In preparation for the challenge, Mr Eaton has been making the 15-mile round trip to his place of work on his bike.

So far he has raised over £500 for the good cause and he is hopeful of reaching his target of £750 before setting off on the ride next week.
