An ex-military forces member is looking to run 48 marathons and climb Mount Everest in 2012 as he bids to raise some money for good causes.

Karl Hinett collected £20,000 for armed forces charities in 2011 by completing 52 marathons and he is now looking to reach 100, the Birmingham Mail reports.

On top of this, the man – a former member of the Staffordshire Regiment – is hoping to reach the summit of the highest mountain in the world as part of a challenge for Walking With The Wounded.

Mr Hinett – who suffered serious burns to his hands, arms, legs and face in Iraq in 2005 – stated: "I believe I can help encourage and motivate others who have been injured, to show that after a life-changing injury, life hasn't ended."

Walking With The Wounded seeks to re-educate ex-servicemen and women after they leave the armed forces so they can cope with civilian life.
