A self-confessed adrenaline junkie is gearing up to participate in a 24-hour go-kart marathon to raise funds for soldiers' charity Help for Heroes.

Howard Kayman told the Borehamwood and Elstree Times that seeing news about soldiers being wounded prompted him to undertake the challenge later this month.

The 43-year-old estate agent, who has already raised £5,000 for the charity, has not put a cap on the amount of money he wants to generate from the endurance race, which will take place in Teeside.

He added: "Every two hours I will need to stop to refuel but I won't leave the kart. I'll eat an energy gel to keep me going."

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Chris Du'Mont recently pledged to show his support for British soldiers by raising funds for kayaking across the English Channel.

He told the Coventry Telegraph that he hopes to raise more than £1,500 by undertaking the 23-mile voyage.
