A man is going to cycle 1,000 miles across Mexico in an effort to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes (H4H).

Stuart McCurry is looking to complete the challenge in eight days despite coming up against tropical farmland and a dense jungle, the Chesham Examiner reports.

In order to increase awareness of the event, he recently took part in a charity spinathon at Chesham Leisure Centre, which saw him use an exercise bike almost non-stop from 09:00 GMT to 18:00 GMT.

Mr McCurry, who has previously completed the 350-mile Big Battlefield Bike Ride in France, played down the significance of his achievements.

"The challenges are less than those faced each day by our troops and in particular, the wounded. As a country we owe a debt to these people," he added.

So far Mr McCurry has collected over £6,000 and this means he is well on his way to reaching his target.
