A man from the Wirral is to take on a half marathon in an unusual style as he seeks to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Ash Cox is going to do the burpee – an exercise routine similar to a squat thrust – for the entire distance of the Plymouth Half Marathon, the Wirral Globe reports.

The move involves going from a standing position into a squat, while keeping your hands on the ground and the soon-to-be father-of-two is confident he will be able to complete the challenge.

"It all started as a bit of a joke after I did four laps of the running track doing burpees and then it turned into this. It's going to be very tough," Mr Cox stated.

Such is the complexity of the challenge that the 26-year-old is starting the race the day before so he can finish at the same time as everyone else.
