A disappointed groom has sued his wife after seeing her without makeup for the first time.

He argued that the wife was a thief because she kept her face concealed with makeup for much of the day up until the wedding.

The anonymous man refused to believe that the woman was his wife when he spotted her in his room after the wedding.
The groom, from Algeria, is demanding $20,000 (the equivalent of £13,000) for psychological suffering.

While he conceded that his wife looked beautiful and attractive before the marriage, but described how she had washed off the makeup first thing in the morning and was frightened as he mistook her for an intruder.

A court source told Emirates 247: “The groom told the judge that he could not recognise his wife after she washed the make-up off her face.

“He said he was deceived by her as she used to fill up her face with make-up before their marriage."

Last year, a Saudi groom divorced his wife the moment he first saw her. He is said to have broken the 'love at first look' rule in the Middle East- similar to the British expression 'love at first sight' – when he backed out of the marriage as soon as she took off her veil.

A source cited by Okaz' daily said: "He told her that he was sorry because she was not the woman he wanted. The groom said he had not been able to see his bride’s face before marriage. When he divorced her, the bride collapsed and the wedding turned into a night of tears."ADNFCR-2867-ID-801796852-ADNFCR
