Man loses $5k after leaving it on car roof

There are some occasions in life when you wish you could turn back the clock and amend a silly mistake.

A man from the US is probably wishing this was the case, after losing a whopping $5,000 (£3,062) in a real schoolboy error.

Jason, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, had placed the vast sum in a bag and rested the pouch on his car roof while he settled his kids in the vehicle, local station KRQE-TV reports.

He then got in the driving seat and made his way to the local bank to pay in the large deposit, but realised he had never retrieved the cash from his roof.

Needless to say the bag had fallen off while the car was moving and Jason couldn't find it again.

At least he admits he made a mistake, as he says it was "bonehead move of the year".

The red-faced father is now appealing for someone to return the funds, saying he wanted to spend the cash on remodelling his house.

More than 500,000 people live in the city, so the chances of finding the $5,000 are pretty slim, but Jason remains hopeful.
