Rowing down a river on a nice summer's day might seem like a pleasant enough pastime – but this has certainly not been the case for some users of a route in Cambridge.

A violent swan, now nicknamed Mr Asbo, has been chasing canoeists during a prolonged reign of terror on the River Cam, often attacking his unsuspecting victims and causing them to capsize.

However, sailors may be pleased to hear the water bully will be harassing them no more after a team of brave volunteers took part in a secret operation to move him to another location, the Daily Mail reports.

Officials applied for an emergency licence in order to carry out the action – and Mr Asbo will now have to look for other things to terrorise at an undisclosed location 60 miles away.

John Wakefied, deputy manager of the Cam Conservators, said: "Over the last few years this swan has been behaving particularly abnormally aggressively by swan standards."
