Make sure online profile photo is “compelling”

Picking a photo that is "compelling" is a good way for singletons to generate interest in their online dating profile.

If people want to stand out from the crowd and be successful, then it is important that they offer something unique.

According to an AnswerLab study, the picture chosen can have a significant effect on the perception individuals will have.

Once they have chosen a shot, time and effort needs to be put into filling out the open-ended questions they face.

"Viewers will be better able to get a sense of your character, your voice and what you are looking for in a date [from these answers]," researchers from the organisation observed.

Last month, it was revealed by YouGov that £3 billion is spent every year on dating, with restaurants, clothes and gifts included in this total.

The average night out was priced at £47.
