The vast majority of Britons now believe meeting someone on an online dating site is an acceptable way to start a relationship.
New research by Macmillan Cancer Support discovered 90 per cent of Britons now back the web as an ideal method for finding love.
However, there is still a slight lack of trust invested in people's online dating profiles, with only 14 per cent suggesting they believe what they see on these, in comparison to 40 per cent of people who said they are happy to trust a Facebook page.
The charity has even launched its own social media fundraising initiative designed to allow people to set up dates for their friends.
Model Amy Willerton, who is backing the campaign, said: "Dating for charity is such a clever idea – I love setting people up so I can't wait to encourage all my friends to get involved."
