The MP for Torridge and West Devon has backed two Territorial Army soldiers who are walking from Lands End to John O'Groats to raise money that will be used to support armed forces.

Dan Cole and Josh Philips aim to raise £10,000 for the Help for Heroes charity through the 1,236-mile walk and they have received the support of politician Geoffrey Cox, the Tavistock People reports.

"I cannot think of a better reason to support what they are doing and I wish them the best of luck in the rest of their journey," Mr Cox was quoted as saying.

The pair, who studied together at Birmingham University, expect the trek to take around five weeks and are so far halfway towards reaching their donation target.

Numerous events are taking place across the country to raise funds for Help for Heroes, which aims to improve the lives of injured servicemen and women.

Next month, London's Dorchester hotel will play host to charity evening Fashion for the Brave, which aims to generate £1 million for military charities.
