Single soldiers who have been tempted to bend the truth in their online dating profiles might be wise to avoid doing so in the future, as one expert has suggested that this will just be setting them up for a fall.

Frances Amaroux, dating guru and counsellor for lovecoaching.com, advised that while omitting certain information and exaggerating the facts seem to have become the norm for some internet daters, it is not a good idea.

"Providing misinformation on your profile or not asking for enough information before you meet someone is setting yourself up for failure from the beginning," she said.

Ms Amaroux recommended that soldiers who are currently using online dating services should not be fearful of asking their potential partner too many questions, as not doing so could result in them meeting up with a person who is totally unsuitable.

A recent study, published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, revealed that men are more likely to lie in online descriptions of themselves than women.
