Single soldiers preparing for a date may want to approach the encounter in a fun frame of mind.

This is because Dr Pam Spurr, writing for the Daily Express, has advised daters to view a meet-up as a way to get to know somebody – rather than a chance to instantly fall head-over-heels in love with them.

The expert noted: "It's always best to go on a date expecting fun and friendship. Go out expecting true love and you will end up looking desperate."

She recommended people head off on a get-together with a smile on their face and wear clothes in which he or she feels particularly confident.

Focusing on their own positive attributes can also help when attempting to woo a prospective partner, as can telling friends and colleagues they are ready for dating – as they may know somebody who is too.

Times of the Internet recently claimed confidence is the biggest attribute for those entering the world of online courtship.
