A pub has taken delivery of a special ale that was launched last week and will be used to raise money for charity.

The King's Head in Lichfield has announced it is to sell Lillingston's Regimental Ale in order to create funds for military charity Combat Stress, reports the Lichfield Mercury.

Lillingston's Regimental Ale is to be offered in honour of the 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Staffords), as the beverage originated there in 1705 when it was founded by Luke Lillingston.

Pub licensee John Rackham said: "We are helping to raise money for the charity Combat Stress which specialises in the treatment and support of veterans with mental health problems."

Some 10p will be donated to Combat Stress and the Mercian Regiment Benevolent Charity from every pint of the golden medium bitter that is sold.

Mr Rackham is also keeping track of the number of pints sold, with each pint requiring four pulls of around two feet. He is hoping to cover the distance between the pub and Afghanistan eventually.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801685117-ADNFCR
