Being a waste disposal worker has got to be one of the least glamorous jobs in the world.

Dealing with people's rubbish must get tiresome, but for one Japanese worker, it turned out to be his lucky day.

This is because he found one thousand 10,000 yen notes while going about his daily routine, which equates to around £73,000.

Despite the fact they went through a pulverising machine ahead of being dumped at a landfill site, the cash remained unscathed, although 2,300 fragments of other bills were found.

A spokesman at the Asaminami police department in Hiroshima prefecture said: "We believe it is unlikely there is anything criminal in this, although we must say we don't know much about this money at all."

If no one comes forward to claim the cash within three months, then it goes to the waste disposal facility and so the man can expect to get a good slice of this.
