A paratrooper who was seriously injured in Afghanistan has been given a new job in the army.

Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson will begin a desk job three years after a roadside bomb left him with severe brain injuries.

He also had to have both his legs amputated and was left unable to speak.

Following extensive rehabilitation, the 25-year-old is preparing to walk, talk and start a computer job with the 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery.

His mother Diane Dernie said he is over the moon at being able to serve his country again.

"The regiment have been fantastic. They told us they wanted him back at work but it had to be something meaningful. He can’t wait. All he says is he’s getting back to the boys," she added.

Captain Ed Poynter, from the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, has revealed he plans to walk the entire length of Hadrian’s Wall to raise cash for the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association.
