The Humberside Police Band is to play two concerts to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Both of the gigs are taking place at Hull University – which has campuses in Hull and Scarborough – and all of the ticket sales will go to the military charity, the Yorkshire Post reports.

Now in its 150th year, the group has a tradition of performing shows in order to collect money for good causes and this year is set to be no different.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Kerman, who is the chairman of the band, told the paper they "particularly enjoy the Christmas concerts" because of the festive cheer associated with them.

"We are sure the community will be thinking about our service personnel in Afghanistan who are separated from their families at Christmas," he added.

Det Chief Supt Kerman continued by saying that he is confident everyone in the local area will support the charity.
