A musical extravaganza has raised thousands of pounds for injured troops.

Newton Aycliffe saw Mad Productions host an evening of festivities in the Xcel Centre, which included musical and dramatic performances, according to the Newton News.

Altogether, the group managed to generate £2,100 for Help for Heroes, a charity that supports and rehabilitates solders wounded in the line of battle.

Guests included local councillors, mayor Dorothy Bowman and specially-invited attendees from the RAF and army.

"At this time of year when we are encouraged to remember all those who have fought and who are still fighting on our behalf, it was a particularly poignant reminder," the piece continued.

In addition, the third sector organisation is set to benefit from a charity auction organised at the elite Forest of Arden hotel course on November 18th.

Going under the hammer at the event are items such as a football signed by England legends Bryan Robson and Jack Charlton, as well as two tickets to the 2011 Formula One Grand Prix.
