A charity event in Shropshire has proven to be very successful after locals turned out in their numbers to help contribute to the bid to make cash for the Help for Heroes charity.

Shropshire Live reports that locals in Bridgnorth hosted a whole charity day in aid of the good cause, with more than 100 people having turned up. Overall, they managed to raise more than £800 for Help for Heroes.

The open day event included cakes, stalls, Tombola and a raffle. It was hosted by locals Jenny and Steve Coldicott at their own house in Ludlow Heights.

Jenny Coldicott told the news source: “The whole day was a great success with a steady progression of visitors coming along throughout the day to support this very worthy cause and we would like to thank everyone who helped us with the organisation and also volunteered to help on the day and raise this great amount for the charity.”

Elsewhere, a local MP has helped to raise money for Help for Heroes after he sponsored a player in a charity football match designed to donate cash to injured soldiers.

The Echo reports that James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, sponsored Great Wakering Rovers FC's Antonio Mehmeti for the game as the club took on Needham Market FC at Burroughs Park on November 22nd in a match that ended 2 – 2.

Commercial manager John Galley said: “The day was fantastic. It went very well. We chose Help for Heroes because the football club was started 96 years ago by ex-servicemen returning from the First World War.”

Meanwhile, the MP said: “It’s an excellent event. It’s great to raise money for Help for Heroes and the football club also brings together the community in Great Wakering.”

The club has yet to announce how much money it made exactly, but it is believed to be somewhere in the region of £500, according to the news source. They raised cash through raffle, cake sale, donations and the sale of Help for Heroes wristbands and badges as well as the sponsorship. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801762755-ADNFCR
