A north-east club has handed over more than £1,000 to Help for Heroes after its latest fundraising initiative proved to be a tremendous success.

The Iona Club in Hebburn hosted an evening of live entertainment, bingo and a raffle, which raised £1,051 in total for the good cause, reports the Shields Gazette.

It means the club has now raised close to £15,000 for Help for Heroes since it started collecting and raising money for the charity.

Event spokesman Brian McLoughlin said: "Alan Saddler, the area representative for Help for Heroes, attended and brought the audience up to date about future work being done in York, where a new facility is being built with the help of further money received via the government."

As well as the fun and games offered at the fundraising evening, organisers took the time to honour former soldier John Houston for his efforts when it comes to raising money for Help for Heroes.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801668334-ADNFCR
