Some £7,000 has been raised for Help for Heroes (H4H) by participants in the Bushey quarter marathon.

There were 700 runners who took part in the event – which is in its 26th year – and they competed for 60 different trophies, the Watford Observer reports.

The money was collected by members of the David Lloyd Pacers running club and H4H representative Mark Fairclough was delighted with the final sum.

He added: "The Pacers told me they hoped to raise as much as possible, but this has exceeded all our expectations and will make a real difference to the lives of injured soldiers."

Jenny Campbell from the Spire Hospital – which was the main sponsor of the race – said there was a lovely sunny day for the running of the event.

The money will go towards funding a number of projects that are designed to help military personnel who have been injured while serving their country.
