Wesley Auvache from Bletchley has completed what he calls "one of the toughest things I’ve ever done" – in order to support Help for Heroes (H4H), according to the Milton Keynes Citizen.

The 37 year-old took part in the Milton Keynes half marathon for the charity, but rather than simply complete the course, he did so whilst carrying a 40Ib rucksack – yet still managed to finish in two hours and 45 minutes after running 13 miles.

It's one of several challenges he is undertaking this year for H4H.

He has told the news provider that, when he hit the nine mile mark, things started getting very tough: "The bag seemed to be getting heavier and I felt like giving up."

But fellow competitors and runners kept him going, he says, while thinking "of those so deserving from Help for Heroes put it all into perspective." Mr Auvache also spoke of how friends and family had cheered him on.

Declaring the race among the toughest things he's done in life, Mr Auvache said that, had it not been for fellow runners, marshalls, the crowds and inspiration from the large numbers running to help worthy causes: "I wouldn’t have got round in one piece."

Meanwhile, the Central Somerset Gazette reports on the story of Kimberley Davidson who has helped Help for Heroes by brining-in £91 with a Colossal Cake Sale event.

The pupil was helped by her mum in putting on the charity sale.

It came after Kimberly wrote to H4H earlier this year and told the charity she wanted to raise money for it.

Alistair Davidson, her father, called himself "a very proud father, husband and ex-serviceman" and said his wife had created around 140 baked treats in a day for the event.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801725733-ADNFCR
