Participants in an iconic boating challenge in York will be doing their best on behalf of Help for Heroes (H4H), it has been announced.

Organisers of the Dragon Boat challenge, which takes place on the city's River Ouse in the summer months, have confirmed the military charity will be its main beneficiary this year, reports the Press.

York Rotary Club is behind the event and it has sent out application packs to in excess of 120 organisations that might be thinking of taking part.

"The river and space restricts us to 36 teams and I would encourage everyone wanting to take part to get their applications in before March 4th," explained club president Darrell Hind.

He went on to note that money raised will go towards sponsoring a room at the new recovery centre in Catterick.

Personnel from the armed forces have previously shown a great interest in the Dragon Boat challenge and that is sure to be the case again this year as H4H stands to gain.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801541965-ADNFCR
