Glow-in-the-dark rabbits created in experiment

A pair of rabbits have been made to look as though they glow in the dark after being the subject of an experiment carried out by scientists.

Experts from Hawaii and Turkey teamed up to look into genetic diseases, and in the process they were able to make two of the litter of eight appear bright green even in the dark.

Dr Stefan Moisyadi of the University of Hawaii said: "These rabbits are like a light bulb glowing … It's just a marker to show that we can take a gene that was not originally in the animal and now exists in the animal."

It is just the latest case of animals being turned glow in the dark by researchers working on schemes such as this.

In the past, creatures including monkeys, kittens and piglets have all undergone the treatment and been made into a fluorescent colour that stands out in any light.
