A lot of soldiers may shudder at the thought of walking down the aisle but new research has found that getting hitched is actually good for their mental health.

According to a massive study by the University of Otago in New Zealand spanning 15 countries, getting married can help lower the risk of mental health problems like depression and anxiety.

On the other hand, it is better for troops to stay in the marriage, as the same research, which is published in the journal Psychological Medicine, revealed that a divorce can increase the chances of these conditions.

Dr Kate Scott, who led the study, said the results are something for guys and girls to think about.

"We found that, compared to never getting married, getting married is good for both men and women," she stated.

Something else troops may want to keep in mind is that regular sex is good for their physical wellbeing, according to the Boston Medical Group.
