Stations owned by media company GMG Radio will be raising money to support soldiers by running a Help for Heroes Day next month.

The group will run an 18-hour appeal to encourage the public to donate money to the charity, which provides support to members of the armed forces who have been injured in the line of duty.

Last year's event raised more than £200,000 and a number of pop stars have pledged to take part in 2010, including JLS, Alexandra Burke, Tom Jones and James Blunt.

The programme will include a two-hour show presented by Eamonn Holmes and he said he is looking forward to a day that aims to "raise a large amount of money for Help for Heroes and raise awareness for the charity".

Help for Heroes, which was set up in 2007, has received donations of £70 million so far and recently set a new target of a further £42 million.
