Those who support soldiers in Afghanistan may well be planning on tuning in to a new programme set to hit TV screens tonight (June 7th).

Our War: Ten Years in Afghanistan is being shown on BBC Three and follows the lives of a number of troops who filmed themselves and their comrades on duty.

A synopsis of the three-part series says it tells "the story of the conflict through the words and pictures of the young soldiers themselves".

The first episode follows 3 Platoon, 1 Royal Anglian's tour of duty in Helmand back in 2007.

A combination of live images taken from cameras fixed to the soldiers' helmets is used in the documentary-style footage, along with experiences relayed from troops upon their return from the frontline.

Commenting on the time spent making the series, ex-officer Bjorn Rose told the BBC TV blog: "I often find myself looking back on the action in [Afghanistan] with rose-tinted spectacles, forgetting the uncertainty and confusion, just remembering the action and adrenaline rushes."
