Two friends are undertaking a nine-day trek in the Middle East to raise cash for military charity Help for Heroes (H4H).

Julie Martin and Stacey Morrow are jetting out to Jordan in October to travel 60 miles from Dana to the ancient city of Petra on foot, the Hartlepool Mail reports.

They hope to raise some £3,000 for the good cause by completing the once-in-a-lifetime challenge and they have been walking regularly to prepare themselves for the gruelling experience.

Ms Martin likened the adventure to a "[step] into the unknown" and she added neither of them know what to expect from it.

"Obviously the main thing for us is to raise as much money as we can for H4H," she added.

The two women have been looking for an opportunity to collect cash for the armed forces charity for a while now and were intrigued by this option because it is so different to others.
