Two friends from Grimsby have agreed to support soldiers in a unique way – by refusing to have a shave for a whole year.

Richard Wall and David Clixby are just over half-way through their challenge, which arose from a bet, the BBC reports.

So far this has earned them nearly £3,000 for Help for Heroes, although the mission does have some drawbacks.

Mr Clixby says: "The worst thing is the food sticks to it, but the best thing is you can have your tea half an hour after you finish it."

And Mr Wall accidentally singed his beard while carrying out his job as a plumber, so he has had to grow a goatee instead of a full version.

Money raised for the charity goes to all sorts of causes, such as the £17 million Tedworth House site, which is currently being trialled before opening fully to injured troops later this year, the Wiltshire Times reported.
