Couples who have met via online dating and are looking for a solid partnership might be interested in the findings of a study considering gender differences in sexual satisfaction.

The study from the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University was published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour and looked at middle-aged and older people in committed relationships.

It found both sexes are more likely to be sexually satisfied if they frequently kiss, cuddle and caress their partner.

And it also noted that among men, having a greater number of sexual partners in a lifetime is a predictor of less sexual satisfaction.

The report's author Julia Heiman comments: "Our next step is to understand how one person's health, physical affection and sexual experiences relate to the relationship happiness or sexual satisfaction of his or her partner."

Older singletons may well be looking to the internet in a bid to find love, as recent research from O2, carried out by ICM, discovered 48 per cent of over-65s feel confident with technology and many use the web to keep in touch with loved ones.
