Forcespenpals.co.uk is an official sponsor of the event, which involves the men and women cycling to Arnhem in a bid to raise more than £15,000 for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

The fundraiser began last month at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham in Wiltshire and is the brainchild of major Steve Wall and major Brett Jackson.

Major Jackson, who serves with the Parachute Regiment, said that Arnhem was chosen because of its significance in British military history and that the cause is a worthwhile one.

"In the current climate of operations there is not an officer on our staff course who has not had first-hand experience of commanding soldiers and officers in combat. So we know the great work that Help for Heroes and the British Legion is doing to help our comrades," he added.

Eight members of Thames Valley Police are to do their bit to raise money for Help for Heroes by cycling from London to Paris, the Bicester Advertiser reported.ADNFCR-2867-ID-19778388-ADNFCRicers who will take part in a 311-mile bike ride to Amsterdam to raise money for charity.
