A charity football match has raised thousands of pounds for injured troops.

According to the Denbighshire Visitor, the game – held in Rhyl – has amassed a total of £4,708.24 for Help for Heroes, a charity that supports wounded servicemen and women upon their return.

The teams that took on the challenge are named Steve's Soldiers and Wendy's Heroes, and both helped generate the cash for the worthy cause.

However, it was Steve and his team that swept to victory, beating their rivals 10-9.

Cheerleaders and a medal presentation helped brighten up the evening, which took place near Long Bar in Towyn.

Elsewhere, The X Factor reject Paije Richardson revealed to the Sun that while he was disappointed at getting kicked off the show, performing the charity single Heroes for the eponymous organisation had given him some perspective after he visited some soldiers who had returned from conflict with wounds.
